Experimental Investigation on Failure Mechanisms of HDPE Welded Geocell Junctions under Different Clamping Distances

Geocells are three-dimensional honeycomb-reinforced geotechnical materials composed of strips and junctions. Its junctions can support transmit forces in several directions. The performance geocells has a considerable impact on engineering applications. However, the testing program geocell still lacks standardization, limited research been undertaken regarding failure mechanisms when subjected to various stress types. In this paper, four test procedures for HDPE welded were performed, including weld tensile, shear, peeling, splitting strength tests. influence tests under different clamping distances (10.5 mm, 25 50 100 mm) was analyzed, stress–strain behavior, peak elongation, residual force states analyzed detail. Finally, considering deformation, slope laying method proposed. results show that tensile shear decrease with distance, whereas peeling remain essentially unchanged. Under mm decreased by 4.51% 14.08%. spreading vertically along surface subgrade thought be more reliable, improving geocell’s service life protection. used improve standardized junction procedure as well guide, evaluate, enhance quality application dependability geocells.
